The Newark Debate Academy recognizes the importance of media in ensuring visibility to our projects. Thus, we have produced a web series called “The Newark Debater” where we host interviews with guest speakers on a range of social, political and ethical topics that are meant to bring the content of our students’ debates to greater visibility. Our Field Coordinator, Ivelisse Tirado, and a current Newark Debate Academy student traditionally conduct the interviews. The guest speakers consist of former Newark debaters, current coaches in the Greater Newark Area, parents of Newark debaters, and other special guests. Some of our previously discussed topics include the power of social media, sexuality and gender, volunteering for your community, and parent /teacher involvement.
