Spotlight – Elijah Smith
In 2013, Newark Debate Alumni Elijah Smith (University High School, c/o 2010) along with his partner Ryan Wash competed for Emporia State University and were the first all black debate team to win the National Debate Tournament (NDT). Elijah and Ryan were also the first team to ever win both the NDT and the Cross Examination Debate Association (CEDA) National Championship, referred to as “Uniting the Crowns”, in the same season.
