Rutgers University-Newark Debaters are Champions of the Baby Jo Memorial

The Rutgers University-Newark policy debate team began their season at the Baby Jo Memorial Tournament hosted by the University of Missouri – Kansas City. The tournament took place from September 12-15 and the students debated, The United States should significantly reduce its military presence in one or more of the following: the Arab States of the Persian Gulf, The Greater Horn of Africa, Northeast Asia. The team of Nicole Nave and Devane Murphy after finishing with 6 wins and 2 losses in the preliminary debates went on to win 5 consecutive elimination debates making them the champions of the tournament! In the final round Nicole and Devane defeated the University of California-Berkley on a 2-1 decision. Nicole and Devane also both won individual speaker awards, 6th and 11th places, respectively. There were over 160 individual speakers at the tournament!
